Hattie Carnegie Black Passementerie Fringed Hat

The woman I bought this from many years called it her “Martini Hat”!   Dates from 1949 and is what I like to call a passementerie hat, with trimmings inspired by the Victorian bustle era.  Dense black velvet buttons rimmed with deep black silky fringes and bobbles create a circlet of 5 fantasy flowers that create movement with your every sigh.  Designed by the legendary Hattie Carnegie, one of the best American milliners of the mid 20th century.   The hat is small in scale, a sweet little cocktail tilt topper or dinner hat, and has two tiny combs sewn inside to keep the hat on the head.  Lined in red satin, with the signature Hattie Carnegie black and gold label sewn to the back.

I had a bit of a difficult time taking good photos to show the great details of this black-on-black hat and will try to add better photos upon request.

Condition is very good, clean, no missing trims.  A little bit rumpled on the inside, but otherwise very nice.
Price: $112.00
