Rose Valois Hat 1930s Paris, French Silk
I hardly ever use the word RARE....But this chapeau truly IS. Breathtaking simplicity, genuine style, and magnificent workmanship are the mark of a Haute Mode hat, and this has it all. Vintage late 1930's hat by French milliner Rose Valois. If you are a serious hat collector, you already know the name, and know how scarce it is to find any hats by this legendary woman who was a Paris millinery queen for decades.
The hat is featherlight, feels as if it will float away......made of best quality buntal straw that has a lovely sheen, and is completely hand blocked and hand sewn in the Valois atelier. The style is inspired by a Coachman hat or Postillion silhouette, with a nod to a lady's riding hat as well. Exquisite trim of a poufy cloud of rich French silk moire taffeta, with a wavy pattern that changes as the light plays across the silk. Just gorgeous!
The crown is wrapped in a black silk ribbon band...the inside has a sort of what I will call a partial lining, more of a very wide satin ribbon banding around the inside....Again, all hand sewn. Original silk covered elastic is attached and sturdy, and would be worn under your hair to keep the hat at the requisite tilted angle of your choosing.

You can search a lifetime and not find a Valois hat, and this one is stylish and stunning.
CONDITION is overall excellent. Seems as if never even worn....no flaws to report....Super clean and fresh, no wear, no fading, no rips or tears, silk is supple and has no dryness or tears....Straw is soft and sturdy.....Inside is very clean and fresh.....The hat is not our of shape......Pristine. Amazingly well preserved and from a smoke free home where it was well stored for over 70 years in a hatbox.
