Dior Coque Feather Hat 1950s DRAMATIC

DAZZLING!  Another head turning chapeau form Christian Dior, this one from the mid 1950's.  Dramatic, yet with lots of elegance.    Haute Couture French Designer Christian Dior vintage hat.   A large and wide coque feather "fan" of long, curvy, supple, luxurious Coque rooster plumes in glossy black with hues of greens, blue and purple.   The feathers are supple and rich looking, smooth and shiny .

Couture Ivory satin label reads Christian Dior Chapeau, Paris, New York.

The base of the hat is a luxurious french velour fur-flet in back, with petersham ribbed edges, wired in a sort of cracked egg shape that clutches the head and fits a range of head sizes.   Can be worn tilted at several angles.  The coque feather top is an astounding example of the plumassier's art....a dense black velvet puckered pancake is expertly hand sewn with the plumage.   This creates an effect that looks much like bangs or a spiked hair do....really fabulous!

The hand work that went into this chapeau is incredible, as every feather is hand applied or hand sewn to lay in perfection.

I can see this worn in the mid 1950's to a dinner at 21 in New York City, with a " little black dress" and black stiletto heels, and maybe add some long black gloves for evening attire.   And don't forget the long black cigarette holder!

A rare pinpoint of  1950s style.   A must have for any serious hat collection.

No shedding or loose feathers, no soiling, no missing feathers, inside is clean.   No odors or marks to the hat.   Feathers are soft and supple and glossy, with no dryness at all.  The hat may show light signs of age but I found no obvious flaws.
