1920s PIERRETTE PARIS Summer Yachting Hat

SOLD

The perfect summer Flapper hat!  Very rare to find this particular "yachting" style.  I especially love those Art Deco graphics in the patterned crown.  I would think this was worn by a wealthy lady out for a leisurely day of boating or yachting along the coast of Newport...sigh....makes you jealous no?  Circa mid 1920's, 1923 to 1926.  Pamela style, with a wide oval brim made of Ivory silk and edged with ivory and blue patterned  light flannel wool "velvet", and a deep soft crown of  that same very light velvety wool, which is wrapped in cream and pretty sea-blue silk ribbons that meet in a rolled ribbon fancy and tails.  And look close, as there is a charming, real mother of pearl half moon sewn on the side bow!   Fully wired brim has a beautiful facing (underside) of ivory silk  that glistens in the light.  All in all a delightful and rare example of a Summer Flapper's Boating chapeau.

Beautifully lined in ivory taffeta, and stamped with the makers mark, and a darling little ballerina logo....Pierrette Hats, Paris, New York.  Very well made.  No size marked, and the circumference is approx. 21 1/2" making it on the small side.

This would make a wonderful display in your summer beach house or cottage, and is an important hat for the serious collector.

CONDITION:  Very good condition.  A few flaws to note, but nothing to keep it from being worn  (although I always suggest not wearing antique hats in order to preserve their beauty and value).  OK, I admit...wear mine sometimes!   The hat is clean, no odors or soiling, and the wool has no moth bites or holes, and is not discolored, not stained, spotted, or faded.  The ivory silk on the top of the brim supple and not torn or ripped, no shattering or splits but upon close inspection, the silk does have some water spotting, as pale wavy lines (you can see this in the close ups).  Probably from the sea spray on the deck of that yacht!  The blue and cream ribbons are in very good condition and are not torn or discolored..1 tail has 2 teensy specks but they are hard to see.  The pearl moon is hanging loose but attached and I would need a stitch or 2 to secure it if you wear this.  The ivory facing  is good, with a few tiny specks or tiny pale yellow speck, but overall very clean looking and has no shredding or dryness and is has a nice sheen......There are 2 places where the wire from the brim is poking out (you can see this in the close ups).  The lining is near excellent with no soiling or wear, just a few hem pulls but no tears, no holes, and it is not shattering, is feels very supple and very clean...The brim is not bent up, and the crown which is a soft unstructured shape, has a bit of rumples from storage, but these pretty much disappear when wearing or can be smoothed out....All seams are tight and secure.  A few flaws, but that is outweighed by the fact that this is very nice hat indeed and rare to find in any condition..
